This isn't a status report -- I need desperately to do one, but it won't happen this week. Faun and I are in Seattle -- just spent a week driving up the coast, visiting sponsors and old friends. We're now in final preparation phase (frenzy) for a 2-week adventure aboard a pair of Microships... off Thursday morning for the Sea Kayak Symposium in Port Townsend, then Port Angeles, across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Victoria, Sidney, Salt Spring Island, the San Juans, Anacortes, and back south. Should be about 300 miles in 2 weeks...
Microship rev 1.0 is in pretty good shape, with GPS, VHF, power management, a small solar panel, navigation lights, anchor, camping gear, and various other improvements. This is a test of camping, lifestyle, navigation, sailing, and other such fundamentals -- the only on-board computers are laptops.
I'll be in touch with a more substantial update when we return, assuming I can squeeze it in among all the speaking gigs piling up in October and November. Somehow, we also need to start integrating systems into the boats. (Yes, Faun insists on a matching Fulmar... I couldn't talk her into a modified kayak...)
Cheers from latitude 48!
Steve
